Meet the Therapist

!Hola!

I’m Esmeralda Sánchez, an ASHA and bilingual certified, native Spanish speaking Speech- Language Pathologist in the state of Illinois. I am a first- generation, Mexican American mother of a Bilingual and Brilliant two-year old boy named Elian! With nine years of experience working with birth to school aged children through Early Intervention, contract companies, and public schools, I possess the experience and professional training needed to help your child’s unique communication needs.

I received my Bachelors degree in Speech Therapy and Spanish with a minor in Women's studies from Saint Xavier University in Chicago. In 2015, I obtained my Masters degree from the top 20 nationally ranked speech therapy program –Indiana University with a specialization in working with Spanish and English speaking children through the STEPS program.

After having my baby and seeing the increasing need for speech therapy services in my community, I founded Bilingual and Brilliant Speech Therapy LLC. My own personal experiences as a neurodivergent adult, mother of a late talker, advocate for appropriate services to children, and work experience has given me invaluable insight needed to provide effective therapy for children from all walks of life! Recently, I have begun to take a deep dive into the world of self wellness. Something that began as a hobby led me to co-found a mindfulness class for my fellow teachers. By addressing the self wellness needs of our teachers, we are directly impacting the wellness of our children. Bilingual and Brilliant Speech Therapy incorporates play-based, family centered based, mindfulness and meta-cognitive approaches during speech therapy. Whether it is through pretend play, breathing exercises, focus and memory activities, writing, and or story-telling activities, we will work to sharpen your children’s bilingual and BRILLIANT skills! Good communication skills and attitudes regarding communication promote positive self-images for a life time. I offer speech therapy in English, Spanish, or both in the comfort of your home. I look forward to working with you!

Free Consultation

A free 20 minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns and to decide if a speech evaluation/therapy is needed.

Bilingual Evaluations (Spanish/English)

We provide bilingual and or Spanish only/English only speech and language services to children from 1 year to 18 years of age. Evaluations incorporate informal assessments such as (child interview, parent interview) play-based, dynamic assessment, and formal assessments (e.g, standardized tests that provide us a standard score to determine and compare the child’s present levels of performance in the areas of speech and language skills to another peer of the same gender and age). Evaluations are typically scheduled one to three weeks after the initial free consultation.

Individual Therapy

Your child will be seen in person and in the comfort of your home making it easy for your child to receive the help they need. Sessions are typically once or twice a week depending on your child’s unique needs for 45 minutes of direct speech therapy followed by 15 minute consultation with the family/child. Differently from the speech therapy offered in school, Bilingual and Brilliant Speech Therapy allows you to talk to us directly about speech therapy progress and home practice to continue working on established speech goals when not in speech therapy. You will be able to observe therapy in progress and provide insight on what works well for your child. Your child will be able to receive individualized 1:1 therapy, as opposed to receiving therapy in a group of 2-6 children which is the model practiced in most schools. Furthermore, in schools, children often do not meet eligibility criteria to receive school based speech therapy services. With Bilingual and Brilliant Speech Therapy, we can get a second opinion and work towards ensuring your child's academic and lifelong success.

Parent/Professional Consultation

Parent Consultation:
Bilingual and Brilliant Speech Therapy is happy to openly discuss evidenced based interventions and strategies to improve your child’s wholesome communication skills. Speech therapy strategies will be discussed with you so you can practice and maintain these skills outside of speech therapy. We are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding outside speech evaluations/reports you may have and or help guide you in the IEP process.

Professional Consultation:
Bilingual and Brilliant Speech Therapy provides professional consultation to providers (Other Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Pediatricians) on education and support in working with English/Spanish bilingual children and adolescents who present with a variety of communication disorders. Areas of speciality include: Typical vs. Atypical bilingual speech/language development, late talkers, receptive and expressive language disorders, articulation disorders, stuttering, cognitive language therapy, and mindfulness practices to support learning and language development.

Mindfulness Interventions

Mindfulness can be defined as paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally” (Kabat-Zinn, 1994,p.4). Mindfulness is an intervention practice that can help relieve stress and improve attention difficulties/memory skills. By improving our focus we improve parts of the brain that are responsible for learning, retaining, and executing. Mindfulness is something that has changed the lives of many people. We can’t wait to discuss how mindfulness can support your child’s communication and social-emotional skills. Ask us how we can incorporate mindfulness interventions during our initial consultation!

Group Coaching

Bilingual and Brilliant Speech Therapy is happy to provide Coaching on a variety of speech topics and skills in a group based manner where you have the option to sit back and observe or be actively participating! It’s up to you! We provide two different Coaching approaches: Private Group Coaching and Class Group Coaching. The Private Group Coaching is typically composed of 2 to 3 children and provided in the comfort of your home. The Class Group Coaching is in partnership with agencies and entities that support play and child development!

School District Evaluations

Esmeralda Sánchez is a bilingual certified, native Spanish speaking Speech- Language Pathologist in the state of Illinois. Ensure that your school district is conducting comprehensive, linguistically and appropriate evaluations by hiring Bilingual and Brilliant Speech Therapy.
